Got sent home yesterday morning for 2 weeks. I was in Germany last week for a ski vacation and HR just added it to the black list. It isn’t all bad, Rascal has better conversational skills than most of my coworkers.
I’ve never really done WFH for more than a day so this is a brave new world for me. Anyone else in quarantine?

Yup. Whole building is on a suggested WFH. Feels weird. Only worked from home 1 day a week. Supposed to stay away for two. Gonna be interesting .

WFH for the entire division as of today. Right now it’s expected through month’s end, but that’s open to revision.
It ’s n o big deal for now, but if my kids’ school gets shut down, this will all go to shit.

Today is day 1,473 for me. Still love it and dread the day I ever have to go back to an office.
Note: You need a dedicated workspace if you can find one. All these WFH articles I read talk about laptops in bed or at the kitchen table. If you can hook up a real monitor, keyboard, and mouse, do it ASAP. It makes it all feel much more normal.

I'm voluntarily WFH. Probably going to keep it up unless I need to go in.

This. School shutdowns will be the biggest logistical hurdle of all.

WFH here as well. I hate it. Folks at the office are using yet another video conferencing solution (even though we host and sell our own video meeting
service
),
I can’t remember what it was I need to do today, my son watching dumb YouTube gamer videos downstairs
is distracting me, the coffee hasn’t finished brewing,
and I haven’t gotten out of my pyjamas yet.

Company has been oddly silent on this so far. But we did get a sudden and urgent IT asset survey yesterday, including asking about a specific VPN program. So I’m gonna guess management is looking into it but just haven’t declared anything yet.

My productivity yesterday was about double what it normally is when I have people stopping by my desk every 5 minutes.

I’m trying to parlay this into a permanent situation if I can lol

I did WFH for about 6 months and while I did have a dedicated work space, I also thoroughly enjoyed the ability to leave that workspace and get shit done while chilling on the couch with my laptop and phone.

Fair...I just find that without a large monitor and proper keyboard, everything moves at 50% capacity. A big part of that is having a 10-key, as well as enough screen space to do database/spreadsheet work.
For basic emails and stuff, I could do that anywhere.

how many of those video meetings could be emails?

Not in quarantine, but I’ve recently gone from an office to a home office. I get lots done, but I also feel much more disconnected. Maybe a little FOMO.

I’ve been remote for over two years (and have done it previously as well). Works well for me, being in the office can be really distracting when you want to focus (Being at home can be distracting if you don’t want to focus, but honestly I’m fine with that too, just catch up on th ings later when I’m more into it ) .

All of them, if we felt like writing up status reports every morning, but nobody will want to do that when a 15-minute standup will do.

I'm teleworking indefinitely now due to other complications, but half my job is hands on mechanical work. Gonna be really big delays.

My first stop after they told me to leave yesterday was Micro C enter. I bought a 24" screen to supplement my borrowed keyboard and mouse. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to the office.

I had a 23" for a few years but just jumped on a 27" Dell for $89 a few weeks ago at Best Buy. Seemed really obnoxious at first, but now it’s normal.
Hard to believe that back in the CRT TV days, 27" was the smallest size considered “Big Screen TV”
How far we’ve come...

UPDATE : It seems my new office mate is really lazy. I'll need to contact management.

Yeah I’m going with a no thanks personally. 1 Day a week with the ability to do it any days is perfect for me. I don’t want to WFH every day.
